Thanks to everyone who participated in our discussion about A Monster Calls! It was a great conversation about grief and YA literature (and monsters, of course).
Congratulations to Stef, the winner of the free book! (Stef, I’ll contact you privately about getting a book to you.)
Meanwhile, what have you been reading lately? Do you have any recommendations for books that would be fun to discuss?
Kristen Joy Wilks says
Hmmm…I tend to love books that make my sons laugh. Fabulous, amazing, well written, but not really all that literary. With that in mind, here are my suggestions: How to Train Your Dragon(made me laugh, made me cry, but as my friend pointed out there are no female characters…what does that say about me that I never noticed this?), The Heroes Guide to Saving Your Kingdom (didn’t know prince charming was afraid of little old ladies, embroidery needles, and dust?), Cress (Rapunzel stuck in a satellite spying on earth…yes please!), I’d Tell You That I Love You, But Then I’d Have To Kill You (A Girl’s Boarding School For Spies and what better use for their skills but spying on boys!) All fun books and Delightful summer reads. If you are looking for something more thoughtful, how about Inkheart or Anne of Green Gables?
